My bio
Hola All!
I came across this site yesterday by accident, and I must say that it is an awesome community.
I'm 27 (28 next month) and have been training for more than half of my life (played football), and am currently a personal trainer and a performance nutrition specialist in San Antonio-I've been doing it in my free time for over 7 years. I have a few different certifications, but originally, I just wanted it for the knowledge, and I just kept going.
With that being said, let me say two things:
1. I don't feel like a certification means anything if the person doesn't know their stuff. I strive to learn as much as I can, and I put the effort forth to get the certification for ME, not to prove that I know anything.
2. I'm not the stereotypical trainer that just walks around with the clipboard leading clients through cookie cutter workouts-I hate those guys and gals! I take great pride in my client's results, and if they fail, I really feel that I have failed.
Fitness and Nutrition are two things that I'm VERY passionate about, and I'm always reading different health and medical journals, and looking for ways to gain knowledge in those areas. I even write freelance articles on numerous different topics about nutrition and fitness.
About me:
I'm actually active duty Air Force and have been in for just over 9 years.
-that is why I only personal train in my free time. I would say part time, but sometimes I spend more time training clients in a week than I do at work for the government.
I am going to the reserves in October, so I can open my own personal training studio up either here in San Antonio, or at home in Knoxville, TN (GO VOLS!)
I'm 5'10 1/2". At different times, I weigh anywhere between 200 and 225. Right now, I'm mid 6's in body fat, but I go as high as 9% in extreme cases (I cracked bones in my back a few months ago, and it set me back a little bit). Also, with silly deployments to ****ty areas in the world, it can get tough to follow my regimen on MRE's and lifting sandbags-but believe me, I love that part of the military.
Recently I've been able to add muscle with minimal fat gain.
My next goal-I want to compete in the Lackland Air Force Base Bodybuilding Classic in November, and I'm hoping to be around 4% for that. That's pushing it, but I've been as low as 4.9% before. It's going to take a ton of work, and if anyone is interested, I'll keep you posted on how it's going.
If anyone has a question about anything lifting, nutrition, joining the military, becoming a personal trainer, college courses, or whatever, feel free to drop me a line. If I don't know, I'll do the research, and we'll both learn the answer. I'll be more than glad to answer most anything.
PM me to ensure I get it, just in case I don't see it in the forum (the PM sends me an email, and I'll definitely get that).
In just one day here, I've been able to learn quite a bit from this forum alone. I know that no two people are alike, and I'm always fascinated to read about what works for different people. Damn, I ramble on and on.
Take care-good lifting and better eating! b
