I am partial to BJJ myself...it incorporates some Judo type throws and if you get a good instructor you will actually be building on what you currently have to get a better foundation. Muay thai is cool also but complete striker type MA....since you are talking about something practical, being an ex-bouncer of several years, I found that often times the BJJ type skills are what I was using in a RL fight situation. No one stands back and puts up their guard like in the flicks...everyone runs in, head down, swinging for the fences. Knowing how to grab those underhooks and hip toss them into side control then roll them into a D'arce choke serioulsy puts and end to all their shiat and any ideas a crowd has of joining in.
