Default Question about muscle group pairings...

I am going to start lifting in a few days. Before doing so, I want to come up with a routine or program. I don't like wasting time in the gym, so I like to go in knowing exactly what I will be doing that day.

Anyways, last summer I had a routine I made for myself. I can't find my notes or journal from that time. Which brings me to a question. I read about a concept before making my last routine. It was something like training major muscle groups with smaller muscle groups can increase gains in the smaller group. I think the logic was when training those large groups, it stimulates more muscle fibers, which release creatine (or something), which in turn can help to lift more weight with those minor groups. Does anyone know what this concept is called or where I can re-read up on it? I remember my old routine, I would lift legs and biceps on the same day. I actually saw pretty quick gains in mass and strength (compared with other routines in the past). Anybody have any idea what I am talking about?

Thanks
~Adam
