Hannainnc:
I've been taking a glucosamine supplement by Inholtra for a while now. These kinds of supplements don't heal anything; rather, they lubricate the joint so that there's lesser risk irritation/inflamation/injury. Are you feeling hip pain/soreness during your runs as well? How far do you run and how often. You may just need to take a break from running for a bit and cross train (e.g., biking, elliptical machine).
I hurt my hip when I upped my mileage and speed -- i.e., classic case of too far, too fast, too soon. After being sidelined for a LONG time, I'm back to 35-40 mi/wk but I'm taking it slow. I feel like the supplement helped to keep my hip injury at bay. I took it for a couple of months and then stopped for a couple months to gauge how my body felt with it and without it. I discovered that without it, my hip was more prone to soreness, more easily so I decided to keep taking this supplement... Hope this helps and ease off on the running!!!
Best prevention for running-related injuries: 1)take it slow -- you should be able to talk or sing while running; 2) increase mileage no more than 10% of your weekly mileage; 3) wear appropriate running shoes -- get fitted at a running store (even if you're only running once a week!). Sorry this is so long! Oh yeah! One more thing: icing the sore spot helps!
