I was doing the standard dead lift, don't think my lower back could handle the stiff legged type (yet anyways)

In my experience, with lower weight its real hard to control the movement properly, and your lowerback most likely wont be affected. Id say try at least 135, you can get the proper height and have some decent resistance. Just remember to keep your back straight and you will be fine.
