If you try and bench more than you supporting muscles can handle for instance; you'll look like a unbalanced dumbass.....focus on yourself and eating right...lifting right...and sleeping right... not on your buddy who can out lift you. Everyone can grow in size and strengh this is a scientific fact thats undisputeable (for the normal human being), you just have to keep trying...if one diet doesnt work than go to the next one (make sure you give it time to work - at least 21-28 days), if one lifting routine is not good go to the next..and so on. Ask any member on here how many times we've changed our diet or our lifting routine and watch the numbers FLY!....keep at it and good luck
To go along with this, READ! Understand the basic principles with diet and exercise and be BRUTALLY honest with yourself. Are you 100% committed to your diet? To your workout? To your goal? At 17, I wasn't! And don't take what we say here as gospel either. The posters here offer you years of experience and what worked for them/us. But we are not you. Don't let me discourage you. I hope to motivate you by allowing you to educate yourself and use that knowledge, along with what has been posted here, to achieve your goal.
