I recall watching a programme on this. A surgeon in Greece would "test" the implants to see how they would hang once the patient was up. His operating table not only stayed horizontal but he would swivel it up to the vertical during the op to test how the implants "behaved" and adjust them accordingly.

A girl I was flatting with a few years ago had her boobs done and was told by the surgeon it would take about 2 years for the skin to stretch (she had a tiny frame and had quite big implants - not stupidly big, but big none the less...)
