He shouldnt take 3 scoops pre workout. 1 scoop would be alot, 1/2 a scoop is what I'd do. Its not simple surgar, its maltodextrin, a high GI complex carb.
Oooops, i forgot to state not a weight gainer scoop, but a typical protein scoop.
I used to take a full scoop of whey, and throw in one scoop of weight gainer. I think one scoop came to about 20 grams maltodextrin
