I have two sons serving. One in Iraq right now. He almost got himself killed and he saw his buddy get killed and a guy lose his leg to an IED. For every IED my son disarms successfully at least one more person lives. Often more than one person lives. My son is a wonderful father and husband...and he's never been selfish even as a kid. He was by my side through some of the toughest years of my battle with fibromyalgia and by me after my first surgery.

My son's best friend from his youth also joined the military. He's a ranger in the Army. He has decided not to get married while he is in the military, so he's giving up the chance to have a spouse or a family.

When my son enlisted and chose his training we were not in the midst of a war. He figured he would do most of his time answering domestic calls. And in all actuality most of his work is right here on American soil and he's usually home with his family most of the time.

As for my son's wife and children. They come stay with us for a bit during his longer deployments and I am shortly going back out to stay with them since he's still overseas. His wife and children miss him...so do his brother, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and his dad and I....but none of us....not a one feel that my sons are selfish.

How can we...when at any moment the red cross could knock on our door to tell us that he/they was/were killed in the line of duty? Bless him...it would mean that he was trying like hell to save some civilians life in that god forsaken hell hole of Iraq.

F*ck him...and tell him that this Air Force mom hopes he never has to live with the worry we live with. But at least we have the balls to support our men and women that serve.
