also, the US technically went to war with japan even before pearl harbour, they had cut off all ties and relations, especially weapons and steel and stuff with japan, which led to japan attacking the US
the US also started the war with mexico under president polk whereby the US intentionally crossed the border line and claimed a mexican force attacked them, that caused the US to act in "self defense", or rather take most of mexican land and pay a paltry sum of... 3 million USD? if i remember the guadalape hidalgo (spelling?) settlement correctly...
lets not forget the imperialism that went on esp in china when every western power and japan was stealing, killing and raping anything and everything they wanted,
