Giving a description of your injury or problem
As i have been on this board for a short while, and have my better knowledge in this section of the forum, I would like to raise the point that most of the time when members give a description of their injury or problem they are being vague and unhelpful in their descriptions of what their injury or problem entails. Given this problem, the following guidelines should be followed when telling us what your problem is.
#1)
When giving a description of your injury; please be specific as to the type of pain (burning, aching, stabbing, numbness, etc.), the severity of the pain on a scale from 1-10, and the specific location of the pain.
#2)
Also, be specific as to what type of motions make the pain flare up, and what activity(lifting, sports, etc.) caused the intial injury or pain to occur. Also, tell us how the motion played out that made the injury to occur.
#3) Saying "my elbow is sore" or "my back hurts" or "my shoulder popped" doesnt help a whole lot. Be as descriptive as possible.
correct example #1
I was out lifting yesteday, and I was doing a military press. I was using repetition weights (120lbs) doing 3 sets of 8. On my 2nd set, I was going up and about half way up, I felt my shoulder give out. It hurt instantly. Every time I try to lift my arm up, my shoulder gets a bad pain in it in the front of my shoulder. The pain is probably a 6 or 7 out of 10. It doesnt feel achey, but it feels really sore. There isnt any numbness or anything like that. I can't lift much with it.
The probable problem here is that your stretched or tore a muscle in your rotator cuff while lifting.
correct example #2
I was pitching in a baseball game the other day. It was towards the end of the 6th inning and my arm was getting tired, I went and threw a fast ball. I threw it as hard as I could. When I did so, my elbow made a popping or a snapping sound and my whole arm flared up with pain for about 30 seconds and then my whole arm went numb. I cant feel hardly anything in my arm now. It hurts a little, maybe a 1 or 2 out of 10 on the pain, and my elbow has swollen a good deal.
The obvious diagnosis for this would be that you snapped your ulnar nerve in half while pitching.
Now had i said: "my elbow hurts and its swollen from throwing" doesnt help anything really, and people that know what they are talking about wont have the slightest idea of where to begin.
Also, no matter what info you get here, if the problem doesn't get better in a week, make sure you see a doctor about it. Also, if it is an obvious problem where medical help is needed, go to a doctor as soon as you can.
