grannydrums is on a distinguished road
Default pensioner need to learn to lift heavy objects

I thought I had posted this on another forum but it seems not to be there so I will post it on this one, its probably a better place for it.

I am expecting to get my new drums next month. They will be in a 2ft by 2ft wheeled case that I will have to lift in and out of the back of the car at the begining and the end of the gig. The manufacturer says it needs a strong man to lift them, but I am a sixty year old woman that has never done anything more physical than carry my handbag and hit drums.

I have not got the time or money to visit a gym so I thought I would devise something to do at home to prepare myself for the task. I have measured the distance from the back of the car and set up two stools, on at half hight and one at full hight. I have found a box the right size and put some heavy things in it. Did a dozen times lifting it from the floor half way just using my legs and a dozen times lifting it from half way to the top just using my arms. then took half the objects out and lifted it the whole way a dozen times trying to keep everything relaxed and not strain.

Is something like this going to work??? How many repetitions should i do??? Is there any point doing it more than once a day??? should i do arms one day and legs the next???

I realy would appreciate help on how to tackle this because I do not want to injure myself when they arrive or have the embarassement of asking the rest of the band to help--you can just imagine all the leg pulling I will get if I cannot pull my wieght.

way to be creative. You want to be careful lifting heavy objects, that you keep it as close as you can to your body. You do NOT want to be leaning forward and lifting with your back, use your legs.

Yes, a good split like that would be good. You can not do the same exercise each and every day, you want time to recover and get a little strength.
