Default Question from a 46 year old woman

I am overweight and been doing cardio and slowly losing, but I am not geting the results I want.
Should I begin a weight liting program in conjunction with my cardio, I am afraid of not losing weight because of building muscle....

Any feedback on what I should do

Thanks

Welcome!

I dont think is necessary to lift to loose weight. It does help to build muscle and increase your metabolic rate but what's more important is to check with a doctor and make sure your thyroid is good to go. If your thyroid is slow you will most likely get discourage and fail.
How much do you eat per day?

I think you should definitely incorporate weight training as part of your goal for weight loss. Gaining muscle is not a bad thing, it is a great thing because the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. The scale is not always great for body image, the judge is how you look and feel and how your clothes fit, not always the + or - on the scale.

If you are overweight, you are not going to build muscle so fast that it will counter-act weight loss. If building muscle was that easy we would all be ripped.

After I had twins, I did not see any real weight loss results until I stopped doing just cardio and incorporated weight training. Good luck!

BINGO...you took the words out of my mouth....except for the part with the twins...I don't have those, haha.

You are not going to be building tons of muscle by incorporating a weight program into your workouts....
For a beginner, why not try and do one of those circuits along with your cardio?
You don't have to do huge amounts of weight or tons of reps or sets - but you will be training your muscles and you will be able to start adding some lean muscle to assist you with dropping fat.
With the fairly rapid pace of a circuit, you can get a pretty nice workout 2-3 times a week.

I was about to hit the same points, but coming from a female this is even all the more credible

Nice Hanna
