Calling those bands emo is being too forgiving. I happen to love Sunny Day Real Estate, who are widely considered one of the first emo bands. I also love the Cure, and some people who don't know their ass from their elbow call THEM emo. Good Charlotte, the Used and Simple Plan don't even deserve a genre. They're nothing more than a strategically executed marketing plan, right down to their carefully sculpted messy hair and label-sponsored tattoos.
