Wow, just stumbled upon this topic, so i figured i'd make a post.
Name: Burge
Age: 17
- Incoming freshman to Northern Illinois
Been weightlifting for about a year and a half. But in reality, about four months

Well, i went into high school chubby, and my parents made me join cross-country even though i have absolutly no talent in running, my dad was amazing at it, so i guess he was lookin to live through me or somthing like that. I lost a lot of weight and became quite a bit leaner. I started working out doing runner workouts w/ weights, ya kno like 12 reps so you gain no muscle... i kno, its completly backwards. Well, this last year (my senior year in hs) i quite cross country because i hated it, i never became any good at it, my body type is just not meant for skinny i guess. And i kept doing those same weight workouts though, i had no idea that wasnt helping me at all.. whatever though. I was becomeing a little stronger though, but not much
Well, around last christmas i was getting a punching bag, and looked online for workouts. I ended up stumbling on this site, and immeadiatly began pouring though the vast cornucopia of information found on this site. I quickly put my old workouts to rest and began doing ones more suitable for musclebuilding. After a few months, i dropped my guitar class to take the weight room class at school. I began doing a condensed version of max-ot. I gained a lot of strength in a short amount of time, and i knew this was the sport i should be doing, and not cross-country.
Fast forward to this summer, i got a gym membership at balleys and now im doing max-ot with my brother. I've gained about 12 pounds of lean muscle over the year and now look much leaner than I ever did with cross country. I've been doing max-ot for about three weeks now and im still gaining. I now love going to the gym, feel more confident in myself, and set greater goals. With cross-country i was always in a constant failure. But with bodybuilding, the only person i can fail is myself, and that means a lot. I've also been suprsing myself with my own strengh, and i've become much more optimistic because of this. I hope to continue bodybuilding into college and who knows, i might start competing on the local level, but thats just a dream for now
