my diet - please help

I'm new and I'd appreciate anyone who took the time to read the below and tell me how I can improve. Ok, I'm 26, 5'7, weight fluctuates between 156-160. I have a little pouch of stomach fat from the belly button down I'm trying to lose and I'm also trying to gain muscle. I currently take Xendrine EFX, ATP Creatine serum (supposedly 100% stable, and instantly absorbed), Isopure whey protein isolate packs (50gms of protein, 25 carbs, 1 or 2 packs a day). I have taken all three for about 4 months now. As for my diet, I try to eat well (oatmeal, eggwhites, chicken, turkey). I would describe my diet as pretty good, although I'm not totally disiplined (pizza once or twice a week, etc..) My training schedule is as follows. Gym 4-5 times a week, but for only 30 mins. focusing on no more than 1 or 2 body parts at a time. Cardio 3 times a week for 30 minutes, sometimes more (sports, running, flexball, etc.) Now the problem is I don't see results. I've weighed the same for the past 4 months and the creatine and Isopure see to have little effect. I notice I'm getting slightly more cut, but no substantial increase in muscle growth. I also have a hard time losing that last pouch of fat. I suspect I could be hitting the gym harder? Being more disiplined? Or do I need to just give it more time and not expect results overnight? Should I switch any of my supplements? I try to stay away from anything dangerous. Please HELP!!! thanx. Derek

Welcome to the forums DNasteee. I think uping your workout to about 1hr each time would definitely help. I have a tough time getting out of the gym within one hour. BTW, are u after bulk or fitness? If for bulking, your doing the right thing for only 1 or 2 body parts a day. but 30 mins is a little short I think. Creatine serum sux, if you ask me. It never worked for me. pure creatine powder is what really works. others here will tell you that too. so maybe give that a shot. Isopure is good stuff. one of my favorite meal replacements. you should consider glutamine as well. read this article if ur not sure: http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/supplements-reviews/glutamine.htm as for the fat around the belly, i've read some good stuff about CLA's effects on fat in that area. Here's a research article u might want to read. http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/weight-loss-etc/CLA-Tonalin-research.h tm As for disciplin, I eat pizza, and other fattening food once awhile. its no big deal. I'm no saint hehehehe.... so don't kick yourself over it.

If you're serious about packing on muscle, You might want to set aside your fat-loss goals for a little while. You need at least 1 gram of protien per pound of bodyweight to gain muscle. This can be difficult and sometimes, depending on where you get most of your protien from, expensive. If you're trying to lose fat you need to cut back on carbs, which means your body might begin burning some of your protien as (a very in-effecient) energy source-thus meaning you need to eat even more protien to gain any muscle. It's called the zig-zag approach. You bulk up, without really worrying about your body-fat%, then you diet to lose the extra fat you've gained while preserving as much muscle mass as you can. As far as the creatine goes, I am a firm belever in giving your body what it needs first, and then supplementing if you have the extra money. Your body doesn't need creatine. That's not saying it doesn't work, just that you should spend your money on protien and a good multi-vitamin pack first. BTW, Isopure is an excellent choice!

Thanx. I think I'm going to ditch the creatine serum. When I finish my current bottle I will look at the powder. I'll stay with the Isopure and the Xendrine, and look into adding the CLA. As for my workouts, I suspected that was my biggest problem. My delima is that if I go to the gym in the morning, I can only afford to go a half hour. If I go at night, I can stay as long as I want, but at night #1 I'm tired, #2 everyone in the world seems to go at night (after work). Some machines I want to use will have lines 5 deep and I find my time is mostly wasted waiting for what I want, or not getting to use what I really need. The morning is dead, but I can't dedicate the time. Oh well, I'll have to figure something out. As for my goals, I want the best of both worlds I guess. I want a cut, nice six-pack stomach, but I want to add some mass to my upper body. I feel my abs are very well toned, I work them out alot and I can feel them nice and tight, I just have to shed the fat over it. Otherwise when I say I want to get big, I just dont' want to add mass, I'd like the see some definition along with it. Right now I get little of both. Currently I do arms one day, then back, legs, shoulders, chest for a full 5 day routine (not in that order). I work out abs about 4-5 times a week outside of my gym time.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention, I was aware of the protein intake. I do strive and pretty much achieve getting 160 gms of protein a day. 100 gms comes from Isopure the rest is food intake. I try to limit my carbs in general. Everything is so expensive though maybe I will cut out the creatine for now. I think I'll stick with GNC Mega Men vitamins and Isopure for my montly purchases.

Hi folks, I agree with asasdad. Protein for me is the number 1 priority. I bought ProLab Creatine powder some weeks ago but i've not started taking it yet. I'm finding that I'm getting quite good results from the whey supps on their own. Once i've settled into a serious training routine thats when i'll start the creatine. I'm seriously considering getting some protein bars cos i'm finding it difficult to get protein all of the time. Can anyone recommend a particular bar? Cheers guyz, keep up the good work Barrie

yeah, good question, I was looking at the bars myself. Something high protein, low in carbs and sugar. I don't care how it tastes so much, I def. don't expect it to taste good..haha. Any suggestions? I think I'll concentrate on adding as much protein and skip the creatine for now.

and oh yeah, it even lists how much protein and carbs each bar has. Now isn't that a life saver? hehehe.... also, the number you should look at is the CPGP (cost per gram of protein.)

I'm a big fan of 'Pure Protien' bars, namely the strawberry cheesecake and the blueberry flavored ones. you can get them in 20 and 30g's of protien but they are different sizes. I eat the 20g ones personally, I usually have them for breakfast.
